Q. What is this thing?
A. This is a fundraiser for two affordable housing groups: Bike & Build and Athletes For Affordable Housing. 100% of the money is going to these two groups. Every $10 you donate gets you one ticket. The winner of the raffle gets to pick any haircut they want and I will keep that haircut for one week.
Q. How do I donate?
A. Go to the donate page and pick one of the organizations and donate $10/ticket (feel free to donate any amount)
Q. Hold up a second...if I buy a raffle ticket and I win I literally get to choose your haircut?
A. Yup, you can give me ANY haircut you want and I will keep that haircut for 7 days. I'll go about my everyday business with whatever ridiculous haircut you give me.
Q. What about a mohawk?
A. Yes, you could give me a mohawk.
Q. What about a mullet?
A. Yes, you could give me a mullet.
Q. What about something crazy?
A. Yes, you can give me ANY haircut that your mind can conceive.
Q. Why on God's green earth are you doing this?
A. This is all in good fun to raise money for
Athletes For Affordable Housing and Bike & Build and also to raise awareness about affordable housing. As I walk around people will ask me about the haircut and I'll engage them on the affordable housing issue. Oh, and this should be a fun time.
Q. How are the funds getting divided between the two organizations?
A. Each person can decide which organization that they donate to and the money raised at the live party will be split between Athletes For Affordable Housing and Bike & Build.
Q. $30 gets you a bonus 4th ticket. Does that mean I have to donate all $30 to one organization?
A. No, for every $30 you donate you get that bonus 4th ticket and it does not matter how you break it up
Q. How do you know how much I have donated?
A. There is a system set up that tracks online donations for both Bike & Build and Athletes For Affordable Housing – check the Buy Raffle Tickets page
Q. When is the raffle drawn?
A. Monday May 3rd at a live party at the All Asia Bar in Cambridge, MA.
Q. Is affordable housing really an important issue?
A. Yes, over 37 million Americans currently live in a poverty housing situation (substandard, unsafe housing and/or paying more than 30% of their income for that housing). Also, over 12 million American children are homeless. This is a very serious issue facing a significant portion of the United States. Everyone has a right to affordable, safe housing.
Q. How were these two affordable housing groups selected?
A. I rode with Bike & Build in 2008 cross country and I’m riding for two weeks with them this summer (check out the Capital Ride, you can still join) and I am on the Board of Directors for Athletes For Affordable Housing. So, that’s how they got selected.
Q. I would like to become involved. How can I help?
A. Email me at jskipburns@gmaildotcom and let’s talk. I’ll be looking for some live party volunteers, I can always use more sponsors, and I am going to plan something for after this event…details on the way
Q. Can I put an inappropriate symbol into Skip’s head?
A. Nope
Q. Can I buzz my name into Skip’s head?
A. Yes, that sounds awesome
Q. Can I create a crazy hairstyle that requires hair gels and other styling products?
A. Yes, Skip will pay out of pocket for low end hair gels and styling products. If you want you can spring for something more expensive
Q. Can I burn a hair into Skip’s hair using fire and/or chemicals?
A. Absolutely NOT
